Life doesn’t get much better than a Peanut Butter Pie.
To me, peanut butter is one of the great pleasures of life.
I’m OBSESSED with the stuff. Especially when it’s combined with chocolate… in PIE form.
This isn’t any old peanut butter pie. I mean, just look at it. It’s over the top, messy, and unapologetically sinful in the best possible way.
I’ve accompanied this recipe with a step-by-step video to not only show you how to make this beautiful pie, but to whet your appetite for it.
Because the chocolate + peanut butter flavors truly belong together.
This easy peanut butter pie recipe is that it is a total crowd-pleaser and won’t last long at all. That coupled with the fact that it can be made completely ahead of time makes it a perfect go-to recipe for easy entertaining. Everyone will want seconds of this pie. It’s that good!
How to Make Easy Peanut Butter Pie
How to Make Peanut Butter Pie WITHOUT Cool Whip
My favorite part about this pie recipe is that it’s homemade! We make the filling with a mixture of peanut butter (of course!), cream cheese, heavy cream, and powdered sugar. Whipping the cream, then folding it in with the other beaten ingredients, gives this pie a light, creamy, yet rich texture without any Cool Whip (or any other highly-process whipped topping).
Peanut Butter Pie CRUST Variations!
This recipe calls for a chocolate graham cracker cookie crust, but you could also use:
What Kind of Peanut Butter is Best for Pie?
- Use conventional creamy peanut butter for this recipe, such as Skippy or Jif.
- Any kind of “natural” peanut butter that doesn’t include an added oil to stabilize the mixture will result in a pie filling that will become oily and separated.
- If you must use natural peanut butter, make sure it’s extremely well stirred and smooth before using.
How Much Melted Chocolate + Peanut Butter for Topping?
This is entirely up to you and your taste preferences! Simply melt the peanut butter and chocolate in your microwave and drizzle as much as you’d like over your pie.
How Many Peanut Butter Cups Do I Need?
Use as many or as few as you like – and feel free to customize! If you’d like to add some Reese’s Pieces in there, go right ahead – be as creative and fun as you wish!
Can’t Have Peanuts? Use Almond Butter Instead!
- Use the same amount of almond butter as peanut butter in the recipe.
- Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and almond butter filling (still adding the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the heavy cream mixture as well).
- For the toppings, skip the Reese’s cups and peanut butter chips and instead garnish with almond butter cups and melted chocolate, or any other toppings of your choice!
How to Serve Peanut Butter Pie
You can actually serve the finished pie frozen or refrigerated, depending on which texture you prefer – or how hot it is outside!
How Long is Peanut Butter Pie Good For?
Store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
How to Freeze Peanut Butter Pie:
Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and store in the freezer for up to 1 month. Serve frozen, or thaw overnight in the fridge before serving, if preferred.
More Easy Pie Recipes:
For the crust:
-
14
whole chocolate graham crackers (196 grams)
-
1
tablespoon
light brown sugar
-
7
tablespoons
(99 grams) unsalted butter,
melted
For the filling:
-
8
ounces
(227 grams) cream cheese,
at room temperature
-
3/4
cup
(94 grams) powdered sugar plus 2 tablespoons,
divided
-
1
cup
(270 grams) creamy conventional peanut butter
-
1
cup
(240 grams) heavy whipping cream
-
1
teaspoon
vanilla extract
For the topping:
-
Melted peanut butter
-
Melted chocolate
-
Mini Reese’s cups
-
Peanut butter chips
-
Preheat the oven to 325°F.
For the crust:
-
In the bowl of a food processor, process the crackers and sugar until finely ground. Add the butter and pulse until moistened. Use the bottom of a measuring cup, glass, or ramekin to press the crust mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie plate. Bake until fragrant, about 10 to 12 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.
For the filling:
-
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese, 3/4 cup powdered sugar, and the peanut butter until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
-
In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer with the whisk attachment to whip the heavy cream until thick and light. Add in the remaining 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and the vanilla extract and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
-
Gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture. Pour into the prepared pie shell and freeze for 3 hours or chill in the fridge at least 6 hours.
-
Place your melted peanut butter and melted chocolate in separate resealable bags or piping bags. Snip off a tiny corner of the bag's tip. Squeeze slightly to drizzle the melted peanut butter and melted chocolate over your pie. Top with mini Reese's cups and peanut butter chips. Serve frozen or refrigerated.
-
Store in the fridge, covered, for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month.
Can’t Have Peanuts? Use Almond Butter Instead!
Use the same amount of almond butter as peanut butter in the recipe. Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and almond butter filling (still adding the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the heavy cream mixture as well). Easy and fun recipe and looks so decadent. I love that you can make it ahead and freeze it, which is what I’ve done. I’ve made a peanut butter pie before it not with these decorations. Can’t wait to try it!!!
Easy and fun recipe and looks so decadent. Love that you can make this ahead and freeze it, which is what I’ve done. Can’t wait to try it. I’ve made a peanut butter pie before but not with all of the decorations.
Delicious, rich & creamy! Perfect blend of chocolate & peanut butter!
Delicious! It was not as sweet as I expected, but everyone loved it. The texture was awesome!
This recipe was a breeze and it was so decadent and crave worthy!
This is a delicious recipe to use and make! The peanut butter and chocolate pie did not last long in our home! A hit for all and we will be making it again!
I have made this pie a few times now and it is one of my absolute favorites! It’s the perfect texture and sweetness level! I love peanut butter but this pie is good enough that it has converted more than one friend of mine into newfound peanut butter lovers!
This pie was delicious and so easy to make!! I love peanut butter pie so much, and everyone I shared this pie with thought it was amazing as well!
This recipe was super easy and tasted delicious. All of my guests raved about it!!
Peanut butter lovers rejoice! This pie is so delicious! And easy to make.
So glad you enjoyed!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! This stuff is indescribably fabulously splendidly magnificently delightful! Just…wow. Wow. Oh wow. This is valid pie people.
And a breeze to make!
So glad to hear this!!
This recipe is so easy and delicious! I’m sharing this with a coworker and I can’t wait for their reaction! Will definitely be making this recipe again.
What a compliment! So glad to hear this.
Super delicious! Very rich but worth every bite. Enjoy with a glass of milk.
We’re so happy you tried this peanut butter pie recipe out!
I love this recipe because it was easy to make and just right on the sweetness!
So glad you enjoyed!
Such an easy and delicious recipe
Glad you enjoyed, Bethany!
I am usually not a fan of peanut butter pie, but admit this is not bad. Lighter than I expected
So light but Rich and delicious
Yum, I love the pie!
So rich, creamy and dreamy! Whole family loved it!
Peanut butter, chocolate….it’s PeRFECT!
So creamy and delicious. It’s like a giant gourmet peanut butter cup
Super creamy, delicious and easy steps to follow.
I just made this but gluten free version and it was delicious not too overpowering with the peanut butter just the right amount I would definitely make again.
So happy to hear that!
I’m allergic to peanut butter but I made this anyway. I used GF oreos for the crust. I gave it to a few GF friends and they LOVED it! They said it was the best pie they’ve ever had. So easy to male and not a lot of ingredients. If I wasn’t allergic, I’d make it again. I did pass the recipe on to others.
Hi Stephanie! Just in case you weren’t aware, for this month’s baking challenge, we actually included a customization option of using almond butter knowing there’d be peanut allergies! 🙂
If you’d like to try the customization in the future, you’ll use the same amount of almond butter as peanut butter in the recipe, then add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and almond butter filling (still adding the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the heavy cream mixture as well). For the toppings, feel free to skip the Reese’s cups and peanut butter chips and instead garnish with almond butter cups and melted chocolate, or any other toppings of your choice!
We found this pie is excellent when frozen!!
This recipe was super easy and the perfect frozen treat for this heat wave! It reminds me of a no-bake cheesecake. I did an Oreo crust because that’s what I had on hand and it worked beautifully. It’s certainly indulgent but is “worth the calories”.
This pie is easier than I anticipated ~ I would definitely feel comfortable recommending it to a baking novice.
If you’re a chocolate/peanut butter fan, this is a must-try! Absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
So happy this recipe was easy to make!
Oh my goodness, fantasticly delicious
Honestlly, I only tried this recipe because it was a monthly challenge item. I have never had a whipped cream sort of pie and I dislike peanut butter, so you can see why it wasn’t a priority for me.
Because of my dislike for PB, I used Justin’s hazlenut and almond butter mixture with a heaping tablespoon of nutella to add some smoothness.
I’d never made my own whipped cream so I was a bit apprehensive about that step.
Together, they came together beautifully- the cream cheese kept the filling from being too sweet. And I was so surprised (and thankful) to find it fluffy.
Best of all – with a KA stand mixer and an electric hand mixer – it was easy.
I will make it again (though not with peanut butter, lol).
I would not attempt wothout the two electric mixers.
Yummy!! So happy you tried the almond butter substitution, and I love that you added hazelnut butter (my fave!) and Nutella too, great idea!
Amazing! 2nd time making this recipe, this time for the April ’22 Challenge – SO SO SO GOOD!
Really pretty easy to put together, and you can have some fun with the toppings, adding some flourish and texture. It’s very, very rich – but oh, so good. (Guess I already said that… but jeez.)
Anyway, if you like Peanut butter, and chocolate… do yourself a favor and whip this up!
Soo easy to make and I love the homemade whip in this!!!
Recipe was spot on and the pie is delicious. But small slices are key… it is rich! Fun and easy to make, with lots of options for toppings.
This pie was easy to make and got so many compliments!
Beautiful recipe! Easy to follow and absolutely delicious. The whole family loved it.
Such a great recipe! Had to use regular graham crackers for the crust instead of chocolate, but was still delicious!
I made it with an Oreo crust. This was super easy and so creamy and delicious! First time making a pie with an Oreo crust and I’ll definitely make again.
Easy to follow recipe with so many decorating options! Glad there was additional instructions to use a regular graham cracker crust as I couldn’t find chocolate graham crackers anywhere!
This peanut butter pie is decadent! So moist, each bite melts in your mouth! We elected to make the crust with regular graham crackers. It doesn’t take away from the flavor whatsoever. A pie to make again and again!
This pie is amazing and very user friendly. I did run out of time and had to cheat with a store bought chocolate cookie crust.
I would definitely make this again! Turned out very pretty!
So easy make and a family favorite at the Easter dinner
This chocolate peanut butter pie is amazing. So easy to make with very few ingredients and super delicious. Thanks Tessa for the amazing recipe.
The pie was so delicious and easy to make!
This recipe turned out really good! I used an Oreo crust instead of graham crackers based on the chocolate silk pie recipe on her site. It does taste a little like cheesecake and is very rich and flavorful.
Heavenly!
So much easier than I thought it would be. And SO DELISH!
Simple to prep yet packed with deliciousness
I made this for Easter dessert. There were 11 people at the table, one doesn’t like peanut butter (who invited her??), but everyone else tried the pie. Four LOVED it, two “very much enjoyed it”, one thought it was “good”, one thought the peanut buttery-ness was “too much”, and two are still undecided. Overall, I would say it was a win, but I probably won’t make it for this group again. The recipe itself was was easy to follow, and I had all of the ingredients on hand, except for the chocolate graham crackers. Those proved to be nearly impossible to find. After searching multiple stores I finally found chocolate Bunny Grahams, which seemed appropriate for Easter. My daughter decorated it with Reeses Pieces eggs, in addition to the drizzled chocolate and peanut butter – I appreciate that it was super easy to customize the “accessories” on top.
This peanut butter pie was a HUGE hit for Easter dessert. I chose to make it for that occasion, but it is a perfect dessert for anytime of the year — no holiday required! 😉 The filling is light and creamy with the perfect amount of unoverwhelming peanut butter and sweetness. Paired with a chocolate graham cracker crust (or chocolate Teddy Grahams because I can’t find chocolate graham crackers any more), it is heavenly. Love it, love it, love it!!!
delicious and a stunner! Everyone was impressed 🙂
Very delicious, we enjoyed eating it.
Such a great and yummy recipe! i doubled the pie filling because we like lots of filling!
This peanut butter pie is amazing!! I am normally not a fan but will make it again and again!! I used 20 peanut butter Oreos for the crust and put Reese’s pieces and chopped salted peanuts on top too. Big hit at the Easter feast this year.
Made this for Easter – it was the crowd favorite.
I made this with Country Crock non dairy heavy cream and it was rich, creamy and delicious! I made this with Oreo crust, chocolate ganache and crushed peanuts sprinkled on top. I also made the ganache with the non dairy heavy cream.
Delicious dessert! Easy to make! Definitely worth every bite and I’ll be making this again!
This is perhaps THE easiest pie I have ever made. I tried it while I was making it but haven’t dived into the pie as a whole yet, but if it is anything like it was when I was making it, it’s going to be off the charts.
Easy no bake pie. The addition of whipped cream to the filling makes this much lighter than expected. The toppings were great fun to add. Would definitely make this again.
Absolutely delicious! Just made this for the second time for our family’s Easter gathering and it was an huge hit! I had to sub regular graham crackers because our local stores were out of chocolate but it was still delicious!
Delicious and creamy! I’m a big fan of peanut butter and chocolate, and this pie has the perfect amount. I would definitely make it again!
I just made this today for Easter and it was such a huge hit! I did use a pre-made crust just to save time but it was still delicious. The filling was so smooth and rich. Topped it with Chopped up Reese’s cups, Reese’s PB chips and melted pb and chocolate. Will for sure make again!
